Native Plants: the Wild among Us

You may not think of developed or other heavily disturbed areas as good habitat for native plants, but with close observation, surprises abound.  Dr. Eva Begley, author of the recently published Plants of Northern California, A Field Guide to Plants West of the Sierra Nevada, will share some of her finds –from tiny, inconspicuous species to showy, charismatic natives. Dr. Begley has lived in the Sacramento region for 40 years, where she has botanized in suburbia, wildlife areas managed primarily for waterfowl, and agricultural lands, finding an amazing array of native species.  She will also discuss easy steps everyone can take to help native plants thrive in such places.  Copies of her book will be available for purchase.
