Land managers spend over $50 million annually seeding degraded drylands, yet less than 10% of these efforts are successful. What if native seeds are already present on site, hiding beneath the soil surface? Dr. Kerry Byrne has found that, although the aboveground vegetation may be degraded, the seed banks of the sagebrush steppe are often still relatively intact and are useful for restoration once invasive species are reduced. Dr. Byrne teaches in the Environmental Science and Management and Rangeland Resource Science programs at Cal Poly Humboldt. Attend at Six Rivers Masonic Lodge, 251 Bayside Rd., Arcata, refreshments at 7:00, program at 7:30 p.m., or join by Zoom: https://cnps-org.zoom.us/j/82066963540?pwd=kM6F0avoxtohPefRa0Pq3y8CZpK54u.1
