Wednesday, October 14. Pando—the “Pando clone” or “Pando Tree”—lives in Utah’s Fishlake National Forest and is the world’s largest tree: largest by landmass, by weight and the largest aspen clone, while ranking among Earth’s oldest living organisms, some 9,000 years old. In this talk, Friends of Pando co-founder Lance Oditt will discuss what makes Pando unique in layman’s terms, and the work the organization does to research, monitor, protect, and care for this ancient wonder, as well as a new generation of community forestry growing around this world-famous tree. Also plan to join Lance on Saturday evening, October 17, when the Humboldt Arts Council displays his photo series about coast redwoods entitled “Sequoia Obscura” and hear him talk about the relationship between art and forest conservation with a focus on redwoods.
