Take a photographic journey to the species-rich tide pools that fringe the Pacific Coast. You’ll bring the intertidal “seaweed blur” into focus by learning to identify the bountiful sea vegetables (edible seaweeds) that grow along our rocky shores: Nori, Kombu, Wakame, Sea lettuce, Bladderwrack, Sea cabbage, and more. Allison Poklemba is an herbalist, educator, and owner of Backcountry Press. Her work explores the relationships between plants, people, and place. She teaches herbalism as Co-Director of Dandelion Herbal Center with an emphasis on ecological awareness, traditional uses of plants, and respectful gathering practices. Seaweeds hold a special place in Allison’s heart and she has spent decades studying and working with them: weaving together hands-on experience, scientific understanding, and traditional knowledge.
